The Atmosphere
As you enter the well-worn historic bar, chances are you'll have to grapple your way through a gauntlet of bonhomous businessmen and smugly proprietary regulars. The vaguely Teutonic main dining room is a clattering, wood-beamed, brass-accented party room replete with enough New York characters to populate a Woody Allen film. Don't expect genteel treatment or fine points of service here--you won't even get a menu.

The Food
The steaks are dry-aged, tender and oozing with flavor. If you are in a communal mood, try the porterhouse, which can be shared by two, three or four. It arrives on a giant white platter, cooked to order, in a pond of its own juices. Fist-thick lamb chops are exceptionally tender and mild, too.
